Four weeks in a row! 🙂 Yep, I’m back again for another round of Sandra Bunino’s Mid-Week Tease. You know-the feature where us authors get an opportunity to post a snippet of a work-in-progress (aka WIPs), a new release or a back title. It’s an amazing way to get a peek at different authors and see what’s up with some of your favorites!
For the last three weeks, I’ve let you get a sneak peek into three of the four stories in Girl Code by DC Stone, Lea Bronsen and myself. This week I’m letting you have a glimpse into the last story in Girl Code – FAITH by Cait Jarrod. The four of us are very eager to share these stories with you. Hope you enjoy!
Setup: the first time Selena and Cullen talked since the night before she went into the Air Force.
Coming back to Pearl, Ohio, was the biggest mistake Selena Bodine ever made.
In her everyday life, she didn’t break down, didn’t feel guilt. She’d never wanted someone so much her thoughts echo from the hollowness created by their absence.
“Thank you for the beer,” she said to the man that stole her heart years ago. She set her bottle on the table and rose.
In lightning speed, Cullen Wilson moved in front of her and blocked her path. “No,” he snapped.
She recoiled, gazed at his blue eyes she loved, and couldn’t stop the quiver in her chin. “I’m sorry, Cullen. I never meant to hurt you.” She’d convinced herself he just had a summer fling, that he hadn’t lost his heart that night as she had.
She moved to sidestep around him.
He grabbed her wrists, brought it up between them, and set her hand on his bare chest. “I’m not losing you again.” His words filled with such affection, such determination that tingles raced over her skin.
The ember of fire that tried to spark between them blazed. Forging ahead at this heartfelt speed was a mistake of dangerous proportions.
“We can’t,” she said the words on a whisper, yet didn’t remove her hand. She couldn’t leave the comfort of him. She curled and uncurled her fingers against his skin, spreading her fingers further to feel more of his warmth.
Cullen slipped his hand behind her back, drew her closer until her hips rubbed against his lengthy erection.
Giving into the hotness, she leaned into him. His bare chest shot fire to her cotton, covered nipples. She made a path of wispy kisses over his neck to the curve of his collarbone.
He tasted of sensual delight.
Tucking his chin until her eyes settled on his, he pressed his mouth to hers in a feather-soft caress filled with gentleness and longing. His hand stayed against her lower back and the curve of her butt.
Through her yoga pants, she could feel the heat radiating from his fingers and craved for them to lower.
As if he’d read her thoughts, Cullen’s hand did exactly what she wanted and cupped a butt cheek and squeezed.
He moaned. His lips and tongue moved over hers like a fine-oiled machine as if they’d kissed a hundred times.
She snuggled into him further, melted right into the contour of his body, his hard plains hitting her curves perfectly.
Somewhere in the back of her mind, she heard an approaching motor. Tearing away from his passion to peek over his shoulder took more strength than she possessed.
The roar of the motor vanished and so did the warmth of Cullen’s body. It took her a second to digest what happened, and another before she could open her eyes.
He stood at the top of the steps a foot away from her. His hands shoved in his pockets and a neutral look on his face. His eyes held the passion that had passed between them, but by his pinched lips, she could tell he tried hard to make it disappear.
